Maintenance of Your Instrument

 

At a minimum, you should change strings and rehair your bow once per year—preferably in January, prior to solo-ensemble contest.  Every six months is probably better, especially for students who play more frequently.  Treat your instrument like a baby—it needs to be held gently, never dropped, and not exposed to extremes of temperature.  The links below should be required reading for all violin/viola students and parents:
